Everyday friends – a short poem

Two people uttering words at

whilst walking away from one another,

engaged in a conventional dialogue but pressed

by the frantic pace of everyday life.

Until

some new revelation is almost shouted between them,

and they are once more obliged to walk towards one another

and listen to what the other has to say.

And so,

a plan is made and promises

of a new encounter are uttered over

forever mounting distances, as two friends say not goodbye,

but a casual see you later uttered over their shoulder,

as they walk away from one another

and promise to resume their stories

some other time.
