Notions of peace and tranquillity found at sea – a poem written in the Bali sea

Peace is a deserted island,

a shady nap under the treetops and

fish cooking on a bed of driftwood in no man’s land.

Peace is a gentle breeze

carrying the silence over the waves

as foreign thank yous go unsaid

and dead coral washes up ashore.

Peace is a wooden sailing boat,

with a good local crew,

and a small tender for good measure.

Peace is to be found

at the bottom of the ocean,

as the shades of blue and green

camouflage the bright eyes of the

curious fish, forever keeping watch

under the water’s trickly silence.

Tranquillity is having the wind in your sails

and waves washing against the hull

as the hush out at sea is deceived

by the shy wooden creak of the bow.
