Ifs and tides of plenty – a short poem from the Java sea

If life is dull,

try sailing across foreign dark seas

on a moonless night

and keep watch at the lonely bow;

If life is comfortable,

try fighting a tropical fever between seas

whilst the cold sweats drag you deeper

and deeper under the hull;

If life is hard,

try making a living by pulling rickshaws of tourists

up and down a treacherous mountain

just so that they can take a picture

atop their crystal thrones;

If life is perspective,

live, love and travel

through a reader’s thousand lifetimes

knowing all too well

that life is composed merely of

tides, moons and swells.
